Yes, that’s the name of the town. No, it’s not named for the happy smoke. But the town tries to capitalize on that by selling T-shirts and other paraphernalia. Weed is a rustic, old west kinda town with killer views of Mount Shasta.
Mount Shasta is a volcano. It’s also over 14,000 feet high. The volcano next to it is named Shastina.
There is lots of geothermal activity in this area. It could erupt any time. I kept thinking about that during our golf game. 😳
There are lots of outdoor activities for everyone here in Northern California. The weather has been dry and sunny, and about 75 degrees. With all of the trees changing colors and the bright blue sky, it reminds me of Colorado.
Terry and I️ hiked the Bunny Flat trail up to Horse Camp. This is a moderate hike with about 1,300 feet of elevation gain in less than 2 miles. My hamstrings were talking to me, for sure.
Horse Camp is owned by the Sierra Club. It’s the first area you get to before you continue up one of several trails that lead to the summit. We met some nice people from Carson City, Nevada and a young man from Schaumburg!! We got a good laugh when I told him that I went to Schaumburg High School. Small world, right?
Anyway, Terry is a good sport for indulging me in my favorite pastime.
What a magnificent sight! I’m so grateful to have enjoyed this hike with my man.
Next stop: Lassen National Park. To be continued…
